After a productive 10-year residency in the campus-like Oglethorpe Power office complex in Tucker, Ga., APOGEE has now relocated into a new suite of offices in the Crescent Centre Building. And while the new address sports the name "Atlanta," this corporate center is just down the street from Apogee's former Tucker address.
"Our move into the Oglethorpe building back in 1998 was an important step for us," said Susan Gilbert, president and CEO of APOGEE Interactive, Inc. The company was just a start-up when it was invited to fill out Oglethorpe's largely vacant fifth floor.
"This move is even more significant," she explains. "We are expanding into a larger space to accommodate our growing development and customer support teams. Plus, we've had the opportunity to design the space from the ground up, which included installing the latest in smart telecommunications and office networking technology," she added. All of this just in time as the company is enjoying its largest growth rate in its 15 years of business. "The best answers to our country's current energy dilemma just happen to fall squarely in APOGEE's focus: energy efficiency, demand response and use of renewable resources. That, combined with steady growth in customer self-service via the Internet, has created the perfect storm that is fueling Apogee's exciting growth."
Gilbert didn't expect to be able to replace the pastoral setting of the Oglethorpe Power complex. But she beams about Apogee's new location. "Most of our employees have window offices with views of a beautiful lake, and the fact that we got to design the interior space ourselves and oversee the custom build-out gives it APOGEE's personality," she said.
Moving the furniture was the easy part. Relocating and upgrading all of the company's in-house servers as well as transitioning to a higher-level of server capacity and security offsite were the challenge for this leading-edge software applications company. "We maintain thousands of energy efficiency applications for utilities across the country and host more than 100 utility websites. The fact we've moved with minimal bumps makes me extremely proud of the good planning and execution done by our IT team," she said.
